Tuscany has a very efficient network rail. There are two big stations which are a landmark for the many travellers who arrive in Tuscany: Firenze Santa Maria Novella and Pisa Aeroporto-Pisa Centrale.
Firenze Santa Maria Novella is the main station of Florence and it is the fourth station in Italy for numbers of passengers after Torino Porta Nuova and right before Bologna Centrale.
Pisa Aeroporto-Pisa Centrale is a station of national importance. Pisa hosts the most important Tuscan airport and as a consequence Pisa station is connected to other important lines such as Rome, Genoa, and Florence.
Also important in Tuscany are local trains, since they allow thousands of people to move every day from smaller centers to bigger cities in order to go to work or to attend university.
FIRENZE SANTA MARIA NOVELLA
With 160.000 passengers everyday and 59 million in a year this station is the fourth of Italy and the first in Tuscany. It is situated in the historical center of Florence, 5/10 minutes away from the Duomo and not so far away from the boulevards. Every day almost 400 trains transit from there to other local and national destinations. The station the way we see it today was inaugurated in 1932.
From Florence's Station it is possible to reach many destinations: Bologna, Rome, Milan, Venice, Pisa Airport and Livorno, Lucca and Viareggio passing by Prato and Pistoia.
There are also trains from/for Germany and France.
Florence Santa Maria Novella station is also considered an important piece of the modern rationalistic architecture, since it was built in the 1930s during the success of the Rationalistic movement in architecture.
PISA AEROPORTO-PISA CENTRALE
Pisa Centrale is Pisa main station. It is situated in the center of Pisa, not far away from the airport. From the station there is a ramification that brings people inside the airport, where you can find another station called Pisa Aeroporto.
With almost 15 million passengers every year, Pisa Centrale is one of the most frequented stations. It is important both for national and local transportation. Outside the station there are buses leaving for Volterra and Collesalvetti.
Pisa Centrale top destinations are: Florence, Genoa, Rome, Naples, Livorno, Pisa Aeroporto, Lucca, La Spezia, Turin.
Pisa Centrale is situated only 10 minutes far from Pisa Airport and you can find trains departing every 30 minutes from the station of Pisa to the airport. Inside the airport there is a train station which is directly connected with the stations of: Florence, Lucca, Viareggio, Pistoia, Montecatini.

Other stations worthy of note are: Massa Centro, Bagni di Lucca, Lido di Camaiore, Forte dei Marmi, Viareggio, Lucca, Montecatini Terme, Pistoia, Prato Centrale, Empoli, Firenze Rifredi, Livorno Centrale, Piombino, Castiglioncello, San Vincenzo, Arezzo, Siena, Grosseto, Follonica.
