Resting on the Etruscan Coast just a few kilometres from Livorno, Antignano is one of the many cities along the on the Ligurian Sea of Tuscany to boast beautiful emerald waters that become dark, midnight blue further out to sea. However, some of the beaches of Antignano are difficult to access due to their location on a strip of harsh rocks while others have an over all pebbly base. The area is in constant evolution and one of its beaches, called ‘Spiaggia della Ballerina,’ was named so because at one point in its history, the bay had the rough shape of a ballerina- although the shape has somewhat changed today. On the shore of Antignano you’ll find the ‘Castello del Boccale,’ which is the city’s characteristic tower, and the ‘Castello di Antignano’ that was built by the Medici family in the 16th century.
The shores here have some areas of sand but are for the most part jagged extensions of land full of rocks. Beautiful to behold and possible to swim, but you wont find miles of white sand here.
