Parco Nazionale dell’Arcipelago Toscano

The Parco Nazionale dell’Arcipelago Toscano is the largest marine park in Europe and is comprised of seven islands off of the west coast of Italy and part of the region of Tuscany. The largest island is that of Elba and is accompanied by 6 other islands including Gorgona, Capraia, Pianosa, Monte Cristo, Giglio, and Giannutri. They are volcanic formations- areas of land pushed out of a beautiful emerald ocean basin - to form (with the exception of Pianosa) completely mountainous terrains of remaining volcanic soil like that of Capraia or granite as found in Elba and Giglio. The land is covered with forests and steep, rocky shores surrounded by the breathtaking blue green Mediterranean waters of the Tyrrhenian Sea. The most visited islands are easily accessible by certain port cities on the shore of Tuscany.
