The island is the most naturally preserved, wild, and inaccessible island of the Arcipelago Toscana as well as the island that rests the furthest from the mainland. The land is mostly comprised of grey-rose granite, forests and steep inaccessible shores and is, to this day, an important refuge for countless species of migratory birds. In order to keep the nature pure, they have a ‘no access zone’ of 1000 meters off the shore, there are only two permanent residents and most of the 1000 per year tourist limit are students of biology ore those who have shown incredible interest in studying natural wild life patterns all of which are see the island in guided tours.
