This is a very pleasant red wine fairly new to the DCOG list of sanctioned wines produced in the province of Maremma. It is composed of mainly the Sangiovese grape with the occasional usage of other grapes varieties like Merlot or Alicante in small percentages. Intensely ruby red and increasingly garnet with age, this wine is intensive fresh and fruity on the nose with strong aromas of prune and cherry and slight woody hints. It is dry, hot, lightly tannic, becoming softer with age. Morellino di Scansano is the perfect wine to enjoy with grilled meat like pork, primi piatti like pasta with meat sauces, classic Tuscan soups like ribollita and minestre, as well as medium to very aged pecorino.
