Giglio

The Island of Giglio, off the coast of Monte Argentario, is in the province of Grosseto and the second largest island of the seven. Much smaller and much less touristic than the Island of Elba, this little oasis is widely known for its unique variety of rocky coast line with strips of sandy beaches. There are two main areas to find incredible restaurants specializing in marine time fares, shops, castles and churches- Giglio Porto (the island’s port), which is easily accessible by ferries travelling from Monte Argentario, and the area surrounding the Giglio Castello (Castel of Giglio) in the center northern area of the Island. Few people inhabit the island year round and even during the height of the tourist season when many Italian families travel to enjoy the sea, it remains an untarnished and mildly touristic venue. It has a small town feel and is sought after for its beautiful shores, quiet atmosphere and wonderful seafood.
